New roofs and re-roofing

Stripped back to the rafters and rebuilt: new membrane, battens, tiles or slates, ridges and verges.

In short

A new roof means stripping the old covering, checking the timbers, then laying a breathable membrane, new battens and new tiles or slates, finished with ridges and verges. ASAP Roofing replaces roofs on houses, bungalows and commercial buildings across the North West, and every new roof comes with a guarantee.

Signs a roof needs replacing

  • Slipped, cracked or missing tiles keep coming back after repairs
  • Daylight showing through the loft boards or felt
  • Brittle, torn or sagging felt under the tiles
  • Damp patches on bedroom ceilings after heavy rain
  • A dip or sag along the ridge or across the roof slope
  • Moss and lichen so heavy the tiles have gone soft and porous

What the job involves

Survey and a written quote

We look at the roof from the ground, the loft and up top, then put the job in writing: what comes off, what goes back on and what it costs. No pressure either way.

Scaffold and protection

Scaffolding goes up with safe access, and we protect gardens, paths and drives before anything comes off the roof.

Strip and check the timbers

The old tiles, battens and felt come off. Rafters and wall plates are checked, and anything rotten or damaged is put right before the new roof goes on.

Membrane, battens and tiles

A breathable membrane goes down, then new treated battens, then the tiles or slates you have chosen, fixed to suit the roof pitch and how exposed it is.

Ridges, verges and a clean finish

Ridges, hips and verges are finished, valleys and flashings sorted, and the site is cleared. The guarantee for the new roof is set out with your quote.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I need a new roof or just a repair?

If the problems are in one area, such as a few slipped tiles or a leaking valley, a repair is usually the sensible answer. When the felt underneath has failed or the tiles are porous across the whole roof, repairs stop holding and a new roof works out better value. We will tell you honestly which one your roof needs.

Do you guarantee new roofs?

Yes. Every new roof we fit comes with a guarantee, and the details are set out with your quote.

Do I need planning permission to replace my roof?

Replacing a roof like for like normally does not need planning permission. Listed buildings and some conservation areas are different, so if your home is in one, check with the council first. A re-roof does have to meet Building Regulations, which we work to.

Can I change from slates to tiles, or the other way round?

Often you can, but it depends on the roof pitch and the weight the timbers can carry. We check both on the survey and explain the options before you decide.

Do you re-roof for landlords and letting agents?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords and letting agencies.
