Fascias, soffits and guttering

Rotten timber boards replaced with uPVC, new guttering and downpipes, dry verge and gutter clearing.

In short

Fascias carry the gutters, soffits close off the underside of the eaves, and gutters take the water away from the walls. When the timber rots or the gutters leak, water runs down the brickwork. ASAP Roofing replaces fascias, soffits and guttering across the North West, and fits dry verge and clears blocked gutters.

Signs your fascias and gutters need replacing

  • Paint peeling and timber going soft along the eaves
  • Gutters overflowing or dripping at the joints
  • Water stains running down the brickwork
  • Gutters sagging or pulling away from the fascia
  • Birds or wasps getting in behind the soffits
  • Mortar on the verge cracking and falling out

What the job involves

Check the rafter ends

Once the old boards are off we check the rafter feet behind them, because rot in the fascia often spreads there too.

New fascias and soffits

New uPVC boards are fitted, with the soffits closing off the eaves and leaving ventilation for the roof space.

Eaves protection

Where the felt at the eaves has rotted we fit eaves protection so water running off the roof drains into the gutter rather than behind it.

Guttering and downpipes

New gutters go up with the right fall to the outlets, and downpipes are connected to the drains.

Verges

Where the mortar on the gable verge has failed, a dry verge system replaces it so it does not need repointing again.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Should I replace fascias and guttering at the same time?

Usually yes. The gutters are fixed to the fascias, so replacing the boards means taking the gutters down anyway, and it costs less to do both in one visit.

Can you fit new fascias over the old ones?

Covering rotten timber traps the rot behind the new boards. We take the old boards off so the rafter ends can be checked and repaired first.

What is dry verge?

Dry verge replaces the mortar along the edge of a gable roof with fixed caps. It does not crack or wash out, so it does not need repointing.

Do you clear blocked gutters?

Yes. Gutter and roof cleaning is one of the jobs we do, and a blocked gutter is often the cause of damp on the walls below.

How do I know if my fascias are rotten?

Push a screwdriver into the timber near the gutter brackets. If it goes in easily, the board is rotten. Peeling paint and gutters that keep sagging are other signs.
